Hi everyone, I've always had a problem getting enough sleep during the night. I've always had this problem as long as I can remember. First, it usually takes me forever to fall asleep. next, I can't stay asleep. I've heard it said that lots of blind people have sleeping problems and wanted to know if others had the same problem. I'm not totally blind, and can easily tell if it's day or night. Also, any suggestions to remidy this problem? I absolutely hate getting up early in the morning after too little sleep the night before. I've tried the unwind technique, no caffeine after 5 pm, soft music, no computer late at at night Etc. Etc. Nothing seems to work though. Any tips?

Hmmm. I know lots of totally blind people, and am also totally blind myself. It's never interfered with my or anyone I know sleeping. Interesting. Anyway, I know you may not like this idea, but have you ever asked your doctor for a sleeping medication? I know it's not a good long-term solution, but maybe it could help get you on a regular sleep schedule, and your body would take it from there. Ambien is the best sleep med I've heard of.

I have asked my doc. I haven't gotten a prescription as of yet. But if I continue having trouble falling asleep, I'll do that. Yes, Ambien is good. I've never tried it myself but have heard great things about it.

hello Brenda, I have this problem. I even tried sleeping meds, and it doesn't work for me. I always feel tired and it drives me crazy.

I have always had this problem but I'll be damned if I tell my doctor about it.

Why wouldn't you tell your doctor about it?

I have a theory that for me, this problem is more psychological than anything.
I don't know how or why but it is. So, telling my doctor would be pointless as he'd try to throw pills my way.
